How does laser hair removal work?
During laser hair removal, the laser emits a concentrated beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair and turned into heat. This heat damages the hair root so much that no new hair grows back. It only works on hairs that are in their active growth phase at the time – and that's only ever some of the hairs at once. That's exactly why several sessions are needed to gradually reach all the hair roots.
Is laser hair removal really permanent?
Yes, laser hair removal leads to permanent hair reduction. The treated hair roots don't grow back. Realistically, we're talking about a permanent, significant reduction: most of the hair disappears for good, while a few fine hairs may come back after some years – and these can easily be treated with a quick top-up session. Compared with shaving or waxing, where the hair always grows back completely, that's a lasting result.
How many sessions do I need?
How many treatments you need depends on your hair and skin type, the body area and your hair's growth cycle. On average, four to ten sessions are needed. Ideally, they should be spaced four to eight weeks apart – depending on the body area – so that the hairs are caught in their active growth phase each time. After just the first few sessions, the hair usually becomes noticeably thinner and sparser.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
The treatment causes very little pain. Most people describe the feeling as a slight tingling, or like a rubber band snapping against the skin. Modern lasers have built-in cooling, which makes the treatment even more comfortable. Compared with waxing or epilating, most people find laser hair removal much more pleasant.
Does laser hair removal work on dark skin?
Yes. We work with the Again PRO laser, which combines two wavelengths in one device: alexandrite (755 nm) and Nd:YAG (1064 nm). Put simply, it's two lasers in one. This means the dose and combination can be tailored precisely to your skin type, so darker skin types can be treated safely too. There is one honest limitation, though: because the laser targets the pigment in the hair, very light, blonde, grey or red hair responds much less well, as it lacks the pigment the laser needs. We'll clarify what makes sense in your case during your consultation.
Which body areas can be treated?
Laser hair removal is suitable for almost all areas of the body, for women and men alike. Commonly treated areas include the upper lip and face, underarms, bikini line and intimate area, legs and arms, and – especially for men – the back, chest and neck. More sensitive areas need a little more care, but can also be treated well.
Can I have laser hair removal in summer?
Yes. Thanks to our laser technology, hair removal is possible all year round and not just in the darker months. Untanned skin is ideal, though: the area shouldn't be freshly tanned before your session, and consistent sun protection (SPF 50) is important after treatment. That way, you can safely continue your treatment in summer too.
What do I need to consider before and after treatment?
Shave the area before your session, but don't wax or epilate for four weeks beforehand – that pulls out the hair root, which is exactly what the laser needs as its target. Your skin should be as untanned as possible. After treatment, your skin may be slightly red for a short time; this usually settles quickly. Avoid direct sun and intense heat for a while afterwards (sauna, solarium) and use high sun protection. We'll go through the exact recommendations for your skin type with you.
